What have you learned so far about Nike and how they have grown to be a powerhouse?

  1. I learned how Nike wouldn't be anything if it weren't for Sonny. This is because Sonny signed MJ and convinced him to sign with Nike instead of Adidas. After he signed, sales for not only Jordan's, but Nike's as well increased by 100 million dollars, while they only sold 150 million dollars in Nike's since before MJ.

  2. Nike started giving away free shoes and paying coaches to make the players wear the shoes and people saw the best players wearing them and it made them better so people bought them wanting to be as good as them and it just grew bigger and better from them.

  3. Sonny was one of the main causes for Nike's up rise. Signing Michael Jordan was the biggest deal for Nike. Also getting all the colleges to wear Nike and promote Nike made them such a power house company.

  8. I had no idea that Nike basically was the major recruiter for many basketball players and that they would pay the coaches of smaller teams and give them Nike gear. Nike and Sonny were the main influences on the biggest college athletes, and made stardom for some like Michael Jordan.

  9. I learned that Sunny signed Michael Jordan to Nike. They had a meeting with him and told him they wanted to name a shoe after him. And that was how air Jordan became invented. Nike was paying coaches to encourage players to wear and support Nike. They even had a basketball camp.

  10. I learned that Nike is who they are today because of Sonny. He was the one that came to them with the idea and he said that they should be free to all college teams. Once all the college players had the shoes, everyone thought that was the shoe to have. Also the Jordan series took off with colors and new designs and that attracted everyone.

  12. Sonny Vaccaro became the innovator for the Nike corporation when it came to expanding into college basketball. He was the type of guy that knew everyone so he had a shoe-in for a lot of deals. Eventually Sonny got many college basketball coaches to sign with Nike and motivate the players to wear Nike shoes. This brought in a lot of publicity and sales. And introducing the line of "Air Jordan" products came with the endorsement of Michael Jordan.

  16. Nike is the business it is today because of Sunny. He had Nike kick some free shoes to young college Basketball players, and then started give some money to the coaches as well. In a couple months Sunny took over college basketball and Kids had at least 25 pairs of Nike shoes. Nike got the recognition it needed because of Sunny and his thinking.

  17. Nike today wouldn't be what they are today if they didn't have the help of sunny. He could do and what the normal person could do go to the grey spots of the business.

  18. Nike wasn't as successful as the are today. Sonny made Nike what it is today. They sold shoes to younger athletes and gave shoes to every college. The idea of this came from sonny.

  21. I learned that nike became big because of Sonny. He was a huge part to the success. When people think of nike they think about Phil Night but Sonny played a huge part. Also that Nike started with track and then went to college basketball. Coaches were being paid to wear nike. In fact they were being paid more by nike then by being a coach. Then they had this great idea to sign micheal jordan and give him his own shoe line while other companies wanted to just sign him. Air jordan made $100 million in the first year and really pushed nike into a better spot.
